optimism vs. pessimism

Unfortunately, these posters (by Because Studio) are sold out (WHY did I not discover these sooner?) but I love them and am crossing my fingers for a reprint. They would work well in our office – glass half full poster over my work area, glass half empty poster over Jonathan’s work area, since that’s how we each look at the world. Although, Jonathan did have an alternate idea: frame the two back to back, and just flip it around depending on your mood.
If they do reprint, we’ll a) order immediately and b) decide the best way to display. In any case. the colors are PERFECT for our home office.

I love everything about this photo. I love the poster (only $20 from etsy seller Roll and Tumble Press!), I love the vintage cameras, I love the books – this is something I’d like to do in our home. We have a vintage polaroid camera and it’s been difficult to decide how best to display it – but I think I just may have to steal this styling idea.
If you get a moment, check out Roll and Tumble’s etsy shop – their letterpress posters are delightful! I think the Kissing Booth poster (below) would be great at a wedding reception – love it!

keep it simple

I just saw this poster on the ilovetypography.com shop by the great Seb Lester (more on him later) and thought it was just a great little reminder for us designers.
While we love the fun ornate typefaces and love to look for ways to use them in the proper form, we see way too many times (more often than not) them being used poorly or overly used. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and to “keep it simple”.

1 commentboston’s best | ken bailey print

I’m always on the lookout for new prints for the house (there are too many on my wish list, I can hardly keep up with it) and this Ken Bailey print makes me smile. I think it would look great in our entry way – I love the orange.

numbers numbers letterpress print | pearl and marmalade
I was originally going to title this post “design for tots,” but as I started going through all of the great items I’d bookmarked, I realized there are way too many well-designed kiddie items out there to feature in one post. So I’ve narrowed it down to a few of my favorite prints for the little ones out there. These are so much fun – I’m actually considering getting the Pearl & Marmalade numbers print shown above just for the house (even though we don’t have any kiddos!)

No commentsthe ink initiative + operation nice

Our good (online) friend and fellow designer Keith Bowman of The Design Bureau of Amerika is starting a project for charity he is calling The Ink Initiative. His concept for his new endeavor, in his own words, is to “Make Posters. Sell Posters. Give Profits to Charities”.
One of his first projects (see above) was inspired by another online friend Mel from Operation Nice. In this piece all the art, typography and screen printing is done by Keith himself - done in what I am sure were Jazz (only on vinyl of course) filled late night and early mornings stints in his Bureau studio in Philly.
I just love this illustration and can’t wait to see them finally up for sale and being given out as giveaways. Keith is known for is Kbowman-isms, so to quote Keith himself in how I feel about his new work, this poster “is like a tickle fight between two CareBears in my tummy”

We’re all familiar with the ever-popular WWII motivational poster referenced here – these three versions by UK’s LOVE Creative are too perfect.
